Chai is a delightful spiced tea blend that offers a warm embrace in a cup. With aromatic spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, this recipe is both comforting and customizable. Whether you prefer it with traditional black tea or caffeine-free rooibos, it’s a perfect drink to enjoy any time of the day. Adjust the sweetness to your liking and savor this simple yet flavorful homemade brew.

Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups water

  • 2 2-3 inch sticks of cinnamon

  • 10 cardamom pods

  • 10 black peppercorns

  • 5 whole cloves

  • 1⁄2 cup milk of choice

  • 6 tea bags (black or rooibos)

  • Monk fruit sweetener or honey, optional and to taste

Preparation

  1. Place cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and peppercorns in a spice bag or cheese cloth, put in water and bring to a boil.

  2. Cover and lower heat to simmer for 15 minutes.

  3. Add in tea bags and let simmer for another 10 minutes.

  4. Add milk and mix to warm.

  5. Take out spice and tea bags, sweeten with monk fruit sweetener as desired. Serve.
